THE TIDE TIMES WOMEN'S EDITIONS WEEKEND WRAP-UP

The following article provides a summation of results of athletic contests involving the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL,SOFTBALL, & GYMNASTICS TEAMS FOR THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 26-28.

The BAMA GYMNASTICS TEAM will reclaim the number one ranking in the polls on Tuesday based on the scores posted by all teams over the weekend. The tide turned in another dominant performance as they defeated SEC foe Kentucky by a score of 197.225 to 195.650 in Lexington Friday night. This marked the 4Th consecutive meet that the team had scored 197 or better. The team set a nation high season score posting a 49.650 on the vault. Alabama also posted scores of 49.200 & 49.300 on the bars and beam respectively. There were areas of improvement Coach Patterson and the coaching staff can take from the meet, particularly a disappointing total team score of 49.075 on the floor exercise, which was highlighted by a 9.9 posted by Morgan Dennis who captured the all-around with an individual total of 39.550. The ALABAMA GYMNASTICS TEAM is preparing to travel to Norman, Oklahoma to face the OKLAHOMA SOONERS on Friday night March the 5Th. The Sooners and Tide have alternated holding the number one ranking for almost the entire season to this point.

THE ALABAMA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM stunned the FLORIDA LADY GATORS 66-61 on Sunday in Gainsville,FL. The victory moved the Tide's record to 12-17 (4-12) in the SEC. The win at Gainville helped cap a season sweep of the LADY GATORS by BAMA. Next up, Alabama heads to Duluth, Ga. for the 2010 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament beginning Thursday, March 4. The Tide will play its first-round game at 8:00 p.m. (CST) against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The seventh ranked ALABAMA SOFTBALL TEAM traveled to Columbus, GA over this past weekend to participate in the NFCA LEADOFF CLASSIC. The tournament was a six team field with the other five teams competing other than Bama including: Maryland, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, & Central Florida. The tide entered the tournament on Friday riding a 7 game winning streak. Friday's action saw Bama earn two wins of 4-1 and 5-4against Maryland & Iowa respectively, carrying the teams winning streak to nine consecutive games. The team extended their winning streak to eleven straight wins on Saturday as they earned a 10-6 victory over Michigan followed by an 11-3 run-rule victory in 6 innings over Nebraska. The most notable feat Saturday occurred in the Michigan game when the tide entered the top of the seventh and final inning trailing the Wolverines 6-2. The tide posted eight runs in the frame, which was highlighted by a grand slam by Charlotte Morgan that put the tide ahead for good. Morgan also earned a save in the final inning of the game on the mound. The ALABAMA SOFTBALL TEAM had their winning streak ended at eleven victories in a row as they were defeated 3-2 by Central Florida. Ashleigh Cole pitched a complete game four hitter in the final game of the tournament. Alabama will return home to host MICHIGAN & DE PAUL in a three team round-robin tournament next weekend.
